Polish unemployment steady at 5% in September: stats office

Unemployment in Poland held steady at 5 percent in September, unchanged from August, the country’s statistics office said on Tuesday.

The reading was in line with an earlier estimate by the government.

There were around 776,000 people without jobs across the nation at the end of September, compared with 782,500 a month earlier, according to the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) office.

The state-run statistics agency reported earlier this month that employment in Polish companies remained stable in September on average in year-on-year terms.

According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.8 percent in August, unchanged from July and one of the lowest rates in the 27-nation bloc.
