Employment down, wages up in Polish firms y/y in October: stats office

Employment in Polish companies dropped by 0.1 percent in October on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office reported on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in October increased by 12.8 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 7,544.98 (EUR 1,730, USD 1,890), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

Family and Social Policy Minister Marlena Maląg this month estimated that Poland's unemployment rate stayed flat at 5 percent in October, unchanged from the previous three months.

There were around 772,200 people without jobs across the nation at the end of October, down by 3,800 from a month earlier, according to the government.
