There were around 838,700 people without jobs across the nation at the end of January, up by 52,600 from a month earlier, according to the government.

The state-run Statistics Poland agency (GUS) reported last month that the Polish jobless rate had edged up to 5.1 percent in December, from 5 percent in November.

Meanwhile, the European Unions Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, estimated at the end of last month that unemployment in Poland stood at 3 percent in December, marking one of the lowest rates in the 27-nation bloc.
