The idea for the plaque, which came from the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland, has been given financial support by Oscar-winning American actress, Gwyneth Paltrow, whose family roots are in Poland.

She recently discovered that her great-great-grandfather Simon Paltrovich emigrated to the United States from Poland, while his brother, Hersz Peletrowicz, was a rabbi in Nowogród.

Paltrow found out about her Polish roots in 2011 thanks to participation in the BBC's genealogy TV show “Who Do You Think You Are.”

Located 150 km northeast of Warsaw, Nowogród has a population of over 2,000.
