Pollok is Poland's permanent representative to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Polish foreign ministry said.

He holds a PhD in economics and was deputy head of the Polish Economic Society from 2005 to 2015.

Pollok takes over as president of the WFP executive board from Shameem Ahsan of Bangladesh, officials said.

“I would particularly like to support WFP efforts in providing assistance that facilitate communities to become self-sufficient and resilient to shocks,” Pollok said in a speech after his election, as quoted by the Polish foreign ministry.

The World Food Programme is a Rome-based UN agency that aims to fight hunger worldwide.
