The charges against Fr. Piotr Glas have been confirmed by the Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth in southern England, several Polish news outlets reported this week.

The 60-year-old served as a priest on the island of Jersey in the English Channel from 2002 to 2008; he is no longer working as a priest, according to the newspaper Rzeczpospolita.

Glas was not detained after posting bail and will stand trial without being held in custody.

The church authorities are cooperating with the police and have declared their support for the priest's victims.

A special procedure has been initiated to help identify the victims of the alleged pedophile.

Glas hails from Rabka-Zdrój in southern Poland. He moved to Britain 20 years ago.

In the past, he also served as a priest in Szczecin, northwestern Poland, where he was known for delivering controversial sermons.

For almost 10 years in the past, Glas also worked as an exorcist, although he did not have formal approval from church authorities for such practices, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

His public appearances and statements often met with criticism, according to Rzeczpospolita.
