Officials from the National Revenue Administration (KAS) detained the traveler for three months.
"For attempting to smuggle such a quantity of drugs, the man faces up to 20 years in prison," stated KAS spokesperson, Justyna Pasieczyńska.
The Nigerian smuggler arrived in Poland from France on a direct flight from Paris. His suspicious behavior attracted the attention of airport security, leading to him being subjected to drug tests.
The man admitted to swallowing 85 capsules in an attempt to earn money. From the airport, he was taken to a hospital where a CT scan of his digestive tract confirmed he had 1.2 kg of drugs in his body.
The contents of his stomach were further analyzed by specialists. The Central Customs and Tax Laboratory in Otwock confirmed that the substance in the Nigerian's body was cocaine, valued at approximately 1.2 million PLN on the black market.
