As the country battles a second wave of the coronavirus, the newly updated figure marks a sharp increase from 277 fatalities per million reported month earlier.

But despite the spike, Poland remains less affected by the coronavirus than some other nations in Europe in terms of its death rate during the pandemic, according to the Polish health ministry.

Among European countries, Belgium has 1,546 deaths per million residents since the start of the pandemic, according to new data released by the Polish health ministry on Tuesday, while Italy has 1,076 and Spain reports 1,027.

The list of countries severely hit by the coronavirus also includes Britain, with 946 deaths per million population, the Czech Republic, Poland's southern neighbor, with 903, and France, with 892, according to the Polish health ministry.

Austria has a lower proportion of coronavirus deaths than Poland, at 502 per million residents, while Greece has 355, the new data found.

Meanwhile, Poland's western neighbor Germany is the European country least affected by the pandemic among those listed by the Polish health ministry, with 273 coronavirus-related deaths per million population, 32 less than Poland's northeastern neighbor Lithuania.

Poland on Tuesday reported 6,907 new coronavirus infections and 349 more deaths, bringing its total number of cases to 1,147,446 and fatalities to 23,309.

On November 25, the country reported its highest daily toll of 674 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On November 7, the Polish health ministry reported 27,875 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country in early March.

Poland in early June reported a coronavirus death rate of 31 per million population.
