Giving preliminary results, Poland’s Central Examination Commission said 83 percent had passed the matura exams, which students sat in May amid the coronavirus pandemic for the second time.
This year, 95 percent passed an exam testing their knowledge of the Polish language.
Meanwhile, 84 percent passed a math test, and 94 percent passed an exam in English.
Students had to select one foreign language on which they would be tested, with English the most popular choice.
The tests are a rite of passage that determines teenagers’ future to a large degree.
High school students in Poland who fail one mandatory subject can retake the exam in August.
Students who flunk more than one mandatory subject have to wait a year before taking the tests again.
Last year, 74 percent of students passed their school-leaving exams.
