Saturday’s weather data was compiled by the state-run Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW), Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Grzegorz Walijewski, the spokesman for IMGW, told PAP: “On Saturday temperatures in the western Lubuskie region reached 18 degrees Celsius.”

He added: “In all probability, Poland has never seen such warm weather at this time of the year. Certainly these are the highest temperatures recorded on December 31 in the past 30 years.”

The IMGW spokesman noted that it was also unseasonably warm when Poland was ringing in the year 2022, with temperatures reaching 10 degrees Celsius.

A warm New Year’s Eve night

“But this year, the New Year’s Eve night will be even warmer,” he said.

According to the official, “temperatures are expected to reach 13 degrees Celsius in western Poland, around 10 degrees Celsius in central Poland and about 8 degrees Celsius in the east of the country.”

Warmest New Year’s Day in 30 years

Meanwhile, the IMGW forecasters are also predicting an unusually mild New Year’s Day.

On Sunday, “temperatures are set to be high in the west, up to 14-15 degrees Celsius, while eastern Poland will see 10-12 degrees Celsius,” Walijewski said.

“Poland has not seen such warm weather at this time of the year in the last thirty years,” the official stressed.

The mild weather is a result of warm air brought in from southwestern Europe, the IMGW spokesman said.
