Most of the emergencies were in the country’s western and south-central regions, the State Fire Service reported on Thursday morning.

Firefighters said they had been called to help pump water out of flooded basements and remove fallen trees from roads.

In the central Łódzkie region, gales destroyed the roofs of 15 buildings, according to a spokesman for local firefighters.

In the village of Niechmirów, near the central town of Sieradz, an apparent twister damaged the roofs of seven homes, state news agency PAP reported.

There were no reports of injuries in the aftermath of the extreme weather.

Authorities have alerted people in various provinces over scorching temperatures and possible hailstorms.
