Despite an overall increase in life expectancy across the European Union, Poland lags behind by almost three years, posing significant health challenges for its population.
According to Eurostat, the average life expectancy in the EU rose to 81.5 years in 2023, marking a notable increase of 0.9 years from the previous year. However, Poland's life expectancy stands at 78.6 years, highlighting a considerable gap between the country and its EU counterparts.
In contrast, Spain (84), Italy (83.8), and Malta (83.6) boast the highest life expectancies in the EU, with figures exceeding the average by several years. On the other hand, Bulgaria (75.8), Latvia (75.9), and Romania (76.6) report the lowest life expectancies.
