One focus will be on the question of how the voices and perspectives of subsequent generations can be made visible in memorial and educational work and what opportunities there are for descendants to become active and get involved.
There will also be an opportunity for participants to get to know the site and discuss their family histories with other descendants.
The Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum says it invites any descendants of former prisoners of the Nazi German Sachsenhausen concentration camp and its satellite camps to take part in the exchange.
The meeting will take place from September 13 to 16 at the Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum in Oranienburg near Berlin.
Accommodation in double rooms and meals will be provided at the Sachsenhausen International Youth Meeting Centre "Haus Szczypiorski" in Oranienburg.
A fee of EUR 30 per person is charged for participation. Travel expenses can be partially reimbursed.
The language of the meeting will be English. Translation will be possible to a limited extent.
Registrations for the networking meeting are accepted by July 1, 2024 at kuehne@gedenkstaette-sachsenhausen.de.
Places are limited. Further coordination, information and the program will follow registration.
Sachsenhausen was the site of one of Nazi Germany’s first concentration camps. More than 200,000 people were interned there, including political prisoners.
