The arrests are linked to a case involving the fictitious employment of PiS MP Dariusz Matecki, who received salary payments from the State Forests despite not performing any actual work.
The investigation has revealed potential damages of nearly 500,000 PLN (approximately 120,695 EUR) due to these irregularities.
On Tuesday, Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesman for the Minister Coordinator of Special Services, reported that the CBA carried out arrests of three former key directors of State Forests, on the orders of the Prosecutor General's Office.
The suspects were detained in southern, central, and northwestern Poland and will be transported to the Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw for further processing.
The case, which includes a request to lift Matecki's parliamentary immunity, is linked to broader concerns regarding financial mismanagement and corruption within the State Forests under the previous leadership.
The current management of the State Forests is implementing new controls and procedures to prevent such abuses in the future.
In response to the allegations, PiS MP Dariusz Matecki stated on social media that he worked remotely for the State Forests for three years during the pandemic and has evidence to support this.
The right-wing politician also stated that he was willing to testify when informed about the investigation, insisting that he has nothing to answer for.
