Poland take on England in their third 2022 World Cup qualifying fixture in London on Wednesday.

“The Polish national team has undergone further tests for the coronavirus; unfortunately, the tests of Grzegorz Krychowiak and Kamil Piątkowski came back positive,” Jakub Kwiatkowski, media officer for the Polish Football Association (PZPN), said on Twitter on Tuesday.

He added: “Due to the fact that Krychowiak is a coronavirus survivor, we have started talks with [European football's governing body] UEFA to clarify the matter and get the all-clear for him to play in the match.”

Krychowiak is a defensive midfielder who plays for Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia, while Piątkowski is a defender for Polish top-flight side Raków Częstochowa.

Kwiatkowski also tweeted that his own "test came back positive as well" in the latest round of testing ahead of Wednesday’s match at Wembley.

"The remaining members of the training staff tested negative,” he said.

Earlier this month, two other Poland players, Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich and Bologna goalkeeper Łukasz Skorupski, tested positive for the coronavirus and were left out of a 27-man squad called up by Poland boss Paulo Sousa for the team's first three World Cup qualifiers, against Hungary, Andorra and England.

Meanwhile, Polish football’s governing body said in a statement on Monday that star striker Robert Lewandowski would miss the England game due to a knee injury.

Poland opened their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-3 away draw with Hungary in Budapest on March 25. The Poles then beat Andorra 3-0 in their second qualifier at home on Sunday.

Poland’s qualifying Group I also includes Albania and San Marino.
