Cycling: Germany's Nikias Arndt wins stage five of Tour de Pologne

German rider Nikias Arndt edged out Slovenia's Matej Mohorič by a hair's breadth to win the fifth stage of the Tour de Pologne, Poland’s largest cycling race, on Friday.

Italy's Stefano Oldani finished third in the annual race's 173 km fifth leg between the Tatra Mountain resort of Chochołów on the Polish-Slovak border and the southern city of Bielsko-Biała.

Meanwhile, Portugal's João Almeida came in fourth and retained the race leader’s yellow jersey.

Polish rider Michał Kwiatkowski, who won the 2018 Tour de Pologne, finished 11th in Bielsko-Biała on Friday.

Countryman Łukasz Owsian secured the best climber's jersey with two stages to go.

The sixth leg of the 78th Tour de Pologne will see cyclists compete in a 19.1 km time trial in the southern city of Katowice on Saturday.

More than 150 riders from 22 teams based in various countries are taking part in the seven-stage race, which will end in the historic city of Kraków on Sunday.
