Four new government-sponsored scholarship programmes are in the pipeline for young athletes and their coaches under a budget approved by the government, Piotr Gliński said.

These plans "mean a whole new era" for Polish sports, Gliński, who doubles as Sport Minister, told a symposium on Tuesday.

He added that spending on sports was set to grow by more than PLN 200 million (EUR 43 million, USD 50 million) next year compared with 2021, which he said marked "a record increase."

Poland’s government on Tuesday approved the country's budget for 2022, which expects the economy to grow 4.6 percent, with inflation targeted at 3.3 percent.

The proposed budget ensures full financing for the government’s key social assistance projects, in addition to a hefty stream of cash on health and defence as well as sports, state news agency PAP reported.
