Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz makes last four in Montreal

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has reached the last four of the men's singles at the Canadian Open tennis tournament in Montreal, with a 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 win over Australia's Nick Kyrgios on Friday.

The 25-year-old Pole, who is ranked world No. 10 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and is the eighth seed in Montreal, will now face Norway's Casper Ruud for a place in the championship match.

Hurkacz on Friday also booked his place in the semifinals of the men’s doubles competition in Montrealpartnering with countryman Jan Zieliński.

The Polish duo will play Britain's Daniel Evans and Australia's John Peers for a spot in the final.

Hurkacz in June won his fifth ATP singles title by beating world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Halle Open grass-court tournament in Germany.

The hard-court tournament in Montreal runs until Sunday.
