Entitled Lewandowski Nieznany (Lewandowski Unknown), the film charts the life and career of the prolific Polish striker, who currently plays for Spanish giants Barcelona.

The documentary features footage from Lewandowski’s private and professional life, as well as exclusive interviews with the likes of Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, who coached the Polish striker at the German club Borussia Dortmund, Lewandowski’s current manager at Barcelona, Xavi Hernández, and the Polish star’s boyhood hero, the former France, Arsenal and Barcelona forward Thierry Henry.

In the film, Lewandowski talks about his footballing career, but also private matters. Now a doting father of two daughters, five-year-old Klara and two-year-old Laura, he opens up for the first time about his wife Anna’s miscarriage in 2016, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

The Poland captain reveals that the tragic event, which was only made public last year, happened at the time of the 2016 European championships.

Lewandowski says that, despite being “devastated, disappointed and sad” at the news, he had “to focus on the job at hand,” namely helping Poland advance as far as possible in the Euro 2016 tournament, the PAP news agency reported.

The Polish team made it through to the quarterfinals of the Euro 2016 championships in France, losing to Portugal on penalties.

‘Inspiration for young people’

Lewandowski says he hopes his life story will provide inspiration for young people, showing how “every goal can be achieved.”

Lewandowski Unknown also demonstrates the importance of having a group of supportive people, according to PAP.

Lewandowski said: “This film tells the story of many people, such as my coaches and teammates, but above all those close to me, family and friends, who constitute an important part of my career, and not only accompany me in times of joy, but also support me through difficult moments.”

Lewandowski Unknown had an official premiere at Warsaw’s Kinoteka cinema on Tuesday, with guests including the Poland captain himself, Barcelona President Joan Laporta, and the former Ukraine player and coach Andriy Shevchenko, who has repeatedly thanked Lewandowski for his support of the war-torn country, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s polskieradio24.pl website reported.
