Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz through to 2nd round of Halle Open

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has moved into the second round of the Halle Open grass-court tennis tournament in Germany, with a win over Flavio Cobolli of Italy.

The fifth-seeded Pole saw off the 22-year-old Italian 7-5, 7-6 in the first round on Monday.

The Polish world No. 9 will next face Australian James Duckworth.

Two years ago, Hurkacz won the tournament in Halle.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Jan Zieliński and Hugo Nys of Monaco have advanced to the second round of the men’s doubles competition at the Halle Open, with a 6-1, 6-3 win on Tuesday over the Czech-Chinese pairing of Tomáš Macháč and Zhang Zhizhen.
