On Sunday evening FC Barcelona faced Deportivo Alaves away in the 9th round of Spanish LaLiga 24/25 season - and the captain of the Polish national team looked as he did in his best years.
Lewandowski needed just 32 minutes to complete the hat-trick. He started scoring in the seventh minute of the match, added a second goal in the 22nd - and completed today's tally in the 32nd minute.
The game ended 3-0, as Barcelona winded down a bit after the Lewandowski-fuelled thunderous start of the game. After nine league rounds, Barcelona leads the race for the Spanish championship with a three-point advantage over arch-rivals Real Madrid - and Robert Lewandowski leads the scorers' classification with ten goals to his name.
So far, the veteran Polish centre forward has five more goals to his name in LaLiga than Real Madrid's star striker Kylian Mbappe - the world's most expensive player in history. Even the most optimistic fans of the "Blaugrana" did not expect a few months ago that their team, under the leadership of manager Flick and with "Lewy" up front, would present such a tremendous form.
FC Barcelona has recently become even more "Polish" too - as after the injury of their first-choice goalkeeper, the Catalonian team persuaded the long-time first-choice goalkeeper of the Polish national team, Wojciech Szczęsny, to come out of his surprise retirement and sign with them.
According to the coach's announcements, Szczęsny is likely to make his debut for the Blaugrana after the international break, in a league match against Sevilla FC on October 20th. And while the Polish goalie keeps up his national team retirement decision - Lewandowski is set to lead Poland against Portugal next Saturday, in an upcoming UEFA Nations League Group A home game against Portugal on October 12th.
