Hubert Hurkacz, who hails from Wrocław in southwestern Poland, returned to the court for the first time since September 27, following his withdrawal from a similar-level tournament in Shanghai, China.
Despite successfully defending against 13 break points in his last match, Hurkacz was unable to win a single game on Michelsen’s serve.
Hurkacz’s performance may have been impacted by recent health issues, and he has yet to select a new coach after parting ways with American Craig Boynton on August 30.
Another Polish player, Jan Zieliński, is also competing in the ATP Masters 1000 event in Paris, in doubles. Partnered with Hugo Nys of Monaco, Zieliński advanced to the second round last Monday.
