The Polish world No. 2 clinched a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over the Czech eighth seed in 2 hours and 32 minutes as she kicked off her campaign at the eight-player event in Saudi Arabia.
Świątek will next face American Coco Gauff, who defeated countrywoman Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-2 in their first group-stage match, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
The 2024 WTA Finals event began on November 2 and runs until November 9.
Świątek, who is the defending WTA Finals champion, last month lost her world No. 1 spot to Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka after spending 125 weeks on top of the world rankings.
The Polish star in August claimed bronze in the women's singles competition at the Paris Olympics after defeating Anna Schmiedlová of Slovakia in the third-place match.
The Pole has a chance to regain her world No. 1 ranking depending on her performance at the season-ending championships, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
