He was associated with Legia for 70 years. He won four Polish championships, four Polish Cups, and three top scorer titles in the top flight with the club.

Brychczy played 58 matches for the Polish national team, scoring 18 goals.

After his career ended, he became a coach and honorary president of Legia, and in 2018, he was ceremoniously inducted into the Ekstraklasa Hall of Fame.

"Symbol of loyalty to the club colors. A great authority. A figure respected by many generations of fans" – this is how Lucjan Brychczy was described in the announcement of his death.

"I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Lucjan Brychczy, an outstanding player for Poland, awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. I offer my sincere condolences to his family and the Legia Warsaw community, which bids farewell to a legend of Polish football," said Polish President Andrzej Duda via social media.

Jerzy Engel, a former coach of the Polish national team, said in a comment for Polish Radio that Lucjan Brychczy was "a wonderful person, player, and coach.

"Being with him was relaxing. Our cooperation lasted for four years, and I remember it fantastically. Later, we also remained friends. The last time we met was at his big anniversary celebration. At that time, I didn’t expect it to be our last meeting," said Engel.
