Ski Jumping: Poland's Wąsek 5th in Zakopane, equals career-best result

Austria's Daniel Tschofenig claimed the individual competition trophy on the Wielka Krokiew ski jumping hill - after the first series leader, Slovenian Anże Lanisek, squandered a clear advantage with a sup-par second jump. Poland's Paweł Wąsek finished 5th, equalling his career-best result.

Wąsek achieved 136 m and 137 m - which gave him a total of 300.3 points, an ex-aequo career-best resulting in 5th place (he was also fifth on January 4 in Innsbruck).

The other Poles did not fare that well - Kamil Stoch took the 24th place (133 m and 125.5 m - 269.2 points), and Dawid Kubacki was 26th (257.2 points, thanks to jumps of 132 m and 120 m). Meanwhile, Aleksander Zniszczoł and Jakub Wolny were eliminated in the first round.

Anze Lanisek jumped 145 m in the first series - and was the clear leader.

In the second series, however, the Slovenian jumped 136 m - and dropped to fourth place.

Ultimately, the win was claimed by the overall World Cup leader, Austria's Daniel Tschofenig, who jumped 136 m and 139.5 m - achieving a total score of 316.7 points. Norwegian Johann Andre Forfang was second, as with his jumps of 137 m and 136 m he finished 7.3 points behind the winner. Third place was taken by another Austrian, Jan Hoerl, who jumped 136 m and 140 m, obtaining a score of 309.3 points.
