The announcement came after European football's governing body, UEFA, held conference calls with its member associations across the continent.
A spokesman for the Polish Football Association (PZPN), the national governing body for the sport, said the decision aimed to give European leagues more time to complete their seasons amid a coronavirus outbreak.
The 24-team Euro 2020 tournament was to have taken place from June 12 to July 12, 2020 in 12 cities around Europe.
It is now due to be held from June 11 to July 11, 2021, the Polish Football Association said.
It added that Poland’s upcoming friendly matches on home turf against Finland and Ukraine have been rescheduled to June.
Poland’s national football squad was looking to make its mark at the Euro 2020 tournament after a disappointing 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The Polish team last year celebrated advancing to the European championships for the fourth time after a successful qualifying campaign.
