The Pole, who plays for Champions League winners Bayern Munich, was picked No. 1 by 83 percent of the paper’s judges over heavyweights such as Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
“There was nothing that could stop Bayern’s No 9 in 2020,” The Guardian reported.
“As he gets older, the Pole seems to get better and better and even more consistent.”
Lewandowski, who is a striker for Bayern and also captains Poland’s national squad, scored 47 goals in 44 games for his club and country this year.
He was on target 15 times as his Bayern won the Champions League, becoming the tournament’s top scorer, The Guardian noted.
It said its male top 100 list was this year decided by a panel of 241 judges from 71 countries, including players, former players, coaches, broadcasters, reporters, correspondents and editors.
The Polish marksman was on December 17 announced the winner of world football's governing body FIFA’s 2020 Best Men's Player award.
He beat Ronaldo, Messi and a field of other big names, including Brazil's Neymar, France's Kylian Mbappe and Spain's Sergio Ramos, to pick up the coveted prize, which aims to select the world player of the year.
