Up next for Hurkacz in Montreal is the winner of a match pitting Argentina's Diego Schwartzman against Spaniard Albert Ramos-Viñolas.
Hurkacz in June won his fifth ATP singles title by beating world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Halle Open grass-court tennis tournament in Germany.
The 2022 Canadian Open runs until Sunday.
