Women's hockey: Poland beat Slovenia 2-0 in South Korea

Poland defeated Slovenia 2-0 in their opening match at the 2023 Ice Hockey Women's World Championships Division I Group B in Suwon, South Korea, on Monday.

The goals for the Polish team came from Maja Brzezińska and Tetiana Onyshchenko, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Poland next play hosts South Korea on Tuesday

The Poles are looking to make their mark at the international event in South Korea, which is also contested by Britain, Italy and Kazakhstan, according to the Polish Ice Hockey Federation (PZHL).

The Polish women's national ice hockey team is ranked 20th in the world by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

The 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships Division I Group B run until April 23.

The Poles, coached by countryman Zbigniew Wróbel, finished second, behind China, at last year's championships on home ice in the southern Polish city of Katowice.
