Grand Chess Tour comes to Warsaw

Some of the world's greatest chess players will come to Warsaw later this month to compete in a prestigious Grand Chess Tour event.

The Superbet Rapid & Blitz Poland 2023 chess tournament will take place in the Polish capital from May 20 to 25 under the slogan Uniting Minds, the event's organizer, the Superbet Foundation, has announced on its website.

This will be the second stage of the Grand Chess Tour 2023 series, after the Superbet Chess Classic Romania event in Bucharest on May 4-16.

The Superbet Rapid & Blitz Poland will be the first rapid and blitz chess tournament as part of the Grand Chess Tour 2023 series, which also includes the SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz Croatia event in Zagreb on July 3-10.

Six regular participants of the series will attend the Warsaw tournament, along with four wild cards. The list of players includes:

  • World Chess Champion, Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen from Norway
  • Grandmaster Radoslaw Wojtaszek from Poland
  • Grandmaster Kiryl Shevchenko representing Romania
  • Grandmaster Bogdan-Daniel Deac from Romania

The elite group of 10 players will meet in Warsaw to compete for USD 175,000 in prize money. The Superbet Foundation is the organizer of the European part of the series.
