The Polish world No. 1 beat the 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 on Monday.

Świątek will play Switzerland's Jil Teichmann in the second round of the grass-court tournament in west-central Germany.

The Pole on Monday started her 65th week at the top of the Women's Tennis Association's (WTA) world rankings, with a 874-point lead over her nearest rival.

The Polish tennis ace this month defeated Karolína Muchová of the Czech Republic 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the final of the French Open tournament in Paris, claiming her fourth Grand Slam trophy and winning her 14th career singles title.

Świątek, coached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, has topped the WTA world rankings since April 4, 2022.

The 22-year-old now leads the world rankings with 8,940 points, ahead of Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka with 8,066 points, and Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina with 5,090 points.

Świątek enters the grass-court season with a comfortable lead over Sabalenka and no points to defend, according to the WTA.
