Estonian cyclist wins first stage of Poland’s Solidarity Race

Estonian cyclist Siim Kiskonen has won the first stage of Poland’s international Solidarity Race, which is now in its 34th year.

More than 160 cyclists from various countries are taking part in the five-stage 730-kilometre-long race, which started in the central city of Łódź on Wednesday.

The 34th Solidarity Race, which is also known as the Course de Solidarność et des Champions Olympique, will take riders through a number of small towns and mid-sized cities in central and southeastern Poland.

These include Zgierz, Kutno, Koluszki and Sieradz.

The race, which has been held annually since 1990, will end in Stalowa Wola in the southeast of the country on Saturday.

Poland will later this year be hosting its largest cycling race, the Tour de Pologne, due to take place from July 29 to August 4.
