Up next for Linette at the clay-court tournament in Rome is 24th-seeded Belarusian Victoria Azarenka.
Meanwhile, Poland’s world No. 1 Iga Świątek is due to play American Bernarda Pera in the second round on Thursday.
Świątek won the 2022 Italian Open. She also triumphed in Rome in 2021.
The 2024 Italian Open runs until May 19.
