The 27-year-old, ranked world No. 7 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), defeated Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 in the second round of the men’s singles on Thursday.
The Polish player, who had a bye in the first round, will next face Italian Flavio Cobolli for a place in the quarterfinals at the hard-court tournament in Cincinnati.

On the women's side, Poland's world No. 1 Iga Świątek has moved into the last 16 with a three-set win on Wednesday over France's Varvara Gracheva.
The top-seeded Polish player will now face Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine for a place in the quarterfinals.
The Cincinnati Open tournament, also known as the Western & Southern Open, is for many top tennis players the final warm-up before the US Open Grand Slam event, which begins on August 26.
