Świątek's participation in this event may come as a surprise to some, as she was not included in the initial lineup announced by the Polish Tennis Association in September. However, officials decided to leave a spot open for her in case she chose to compete.
"I’m excited to announce that I will be playing in the Billie Jean King Cup finals! I look forward to representing my country and, as always, I am proud to represent Poland. Together with the whole team, we will give our best and play as well as we can. I hope you’ll watch and cheer for us. See you!" Świątek shared via social media.
Currently, Iga Świątek ranks second in the world. Fręch is ranked 24th, and Linette is 41st.
The Polish team will compete against Spain on November 13, with the match consisting of two singles and one doubles match. The Spanish team will feature Paula Badosa (14th in the WTA rankings), Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (60th), Cristina Bucsa (70th), Nuria Parrizas-Diaz (97th), and Sara Sorribes-Tormo (112th).
Just before the Billie Jean King Cup 2024, which runs from November 13 to 20, Świątek will defend her title at the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia from November 2 to 9.
As previously reported by Radio Poland, Iga Świątek has ended her collaboration with former coach Tomasz Wiktorowski and has been replaced by new coach Wim Fissette from Belgium.
