A sample taken from Świątek on August 12, before the start of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, tested positive for trimetazidine (TMZ), a prohibited substance. The 23-year-old cooperated with anti-doping authorities, and it was determined that the substance entered her system unintentionally through a contaminated sleep aid.
Świątek's suspension is set to conclude on December 4, accounting for a prior provisional suspension. As a result, she forfeits the 390 ranking points earned from reaching the semifinals in Cincinnati, where she lost to current world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus. This loss increases her gap behind Sabalenka to 1,436 points, with American Coco Gauff trailing Świątek by 1,450 points.
The Pole also relinquishes approximately USD 159,000 in prize money from the Cincinnati tournament. This reduces her total earnings for the year from USD 8.55 million to USD 8.39 million.
