Natalia Padilla scored the winning goal on home soil in Gdańsk on Friday, converting an assist from Ewa Pajor in the 57th minute, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Poland and Austria will meet again in the second leg in Vienna on Tuesday.

The winner of the two-leg playoff will secure a place at the tournament, scheduled to be played in Switzerland from July 2 to 27.
Poland are ranked 32nd worldwide by football's governing body FIFA, while Austria are No. 17 in the FIFA table.
In the first playoff stage, Poland beat Romania, while Austria overcame Slovenia.
