Despite controlling much of the match, the Catalan side could not capitalize, and Robert Lewandowski’s lackluster performance drew pointed criticism from local media.
Barcelona opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Pedri, dominating play and crafting several dangerous chances. After the break, Raphinha struck the crossbar in the 57th minute, and Lewandowski’s follow-up attempt was blocked. However, a defensive error in the 60th minute allowed Rodrigo de Paul to equalize with a low shot into the bottom corner. Lewandowski then spurned a clear opportunity in the 76th minute, mishitting a close-range effort set up by Ferran Torres.
Deep in stoppage time, Nahuel Molina’s cross somehow evaded Barcelona’s defenders, allowing Alexander Sorloth to net Atlético’s winner—sealing Los Colchoneros’ first victory at Camp Nou since 2006.
Media criticism: “not acceptable”
Spanish sports daily Sport awarded Lewandowski the lowest rating of any Barcelona player (4/10). “He’s been too disconnected from the game for weeks,” the publication wrote, adding, “He didn’t have a single clear chance, which says a lot. He also missed an unmissable shot.”
Mundo Deportivo noted a dip in Lewandowski’s attacking output, calling it “understandable” given his initial hot start to the season, but criticized what they see as insufficient overall effort.
Atlético’s victory puts them three points ahead of Barcelona and with a game in hand. On Sunday, Real Madrid—trailing Barcelona by just one point but with two games in hand—could push the Catalans down to fourth place if they win against Sevilla.
