Australian Open: Poland’s Fręch into 3rd round of women's singles

Poland’s Magdalena Fręch has advanced to the third round of the women’s singles competition at the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in Melbourne.

The 27-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 26 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), saw off Russia's Anna Blinkova 0-6, 6-0, 6-2 in the second round at Melbourne Park.

Fręch will next take on Russian world No. 14 Mirra Andreeva for a place in the last 16.

Meanwhile, Poland’s world No. 2 Iga Świątek is set to play Rebecca Šramková of Slovakia for a place in the third round.

On the men's side, Poland’s world No. 17 Hubert Hurkacz has entered the second round with a straight-set win over Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands. He will next face Serbia's Miomir Kecmanović.

The 2025 Australian Open runs until January 26.
