The text was compiled by the Commission for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, church officials said.
It reads: “Let us pray for the Ukrainian people, [who are] suffering from the Russian military attack, for refugees and victims of deadly attacks, let our God and Lord stop violence, rape and destruction, that the longed-for peace reigns.”
After the call, a silent prayer follows, and then the priest sings: “Almighty, eternal God, you calm wars and humiliate the proud, free the Ukrainian nation from cruelty and suffering, look graciously on refugees and exiles, on separated families and orphaned children, and give us hearts sensitive to the needs of the visitors. Through Christ our Lord.”
Good Friday is a commemoration of the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is part of the Easter Triduum.
