The event celebrates Ukraine’s Independence Day, which was observed on Wednesday.
The concert includes the overture to the opera Taras Bulba by Mykola Lysenko (1842-1912), a composer known as the father of Ukrainian national opera, and excerpts from the opera Zaporozhian Cossack Beyond the Danube by Semen Hulak-Artemovsky (1813-1873).
Also performed will be a duet from Stolen Happiness: Ukredene schastya by Yuliy Meitus (1903-1997).
In addition, the soloists, orchestra and chorus of the Lviv Opera will perform arias from Polish composer Stanisław Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor and Halka, as well as fragments from the staple Italian repertoire comprising Verdi’s La Traviata, Aida, Il Trovatore and Don Carlos, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, and Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana.
