A new multimedia cultural event begins today in Białystok combining jazz and world music influences with the art of Jerzy Nowosielski to create "NOWOSIELSKI - audiovisual misterium".

Nowosielski (1923 – 2011) was a Kraków-born painter, perhaps best known for his religious compositions painted for a range of denominations: for the Eastern Orthodox Churches in Kraków and Białystok, for the Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Cross at Wesoła, near Warsaw, and for the Greek Catholic Church in Lourdes, France - among others.

Artur Dutkiewicz - composer and pianist, known as the "Ambassador of Polish Jazz" - has performed in over 70 countries across the world, frequently joining hands with local artists from a wide range of global musical traditions. He is the recipient of a silver medal from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for his contribution to culture and art.

"NOWOSIELSKI - audiovisual misterium" unites spiritual, almost meditative music with images from the work of Nowosielski.

The first concert in the tour takes place 26 August as part of the Wschód Piękna festival in Białystok (the title being a play on words in Polish, meaning both "Eastern Beauty" and "Sunrise of Beauty".) Dutkiewicz is joined by Michał Barański on double-bass and Sebastian Kuchczyński - percussion.

Artist Andrzej Wąsik has provided the artwork needed to transfer Nowosielski from canvas and icon to the concert hall. Andrzej Wąsik is a Polish painter, graphics designer and director - a graduate of the Department of Fine Arts at the Copernicus University of Toruń. He has worked widely in television and film, in particular working on music videos for such well-known Polish artists as Urszula Dudziak, Kasia Stankiewicz and Renata Przemyk.
