'Two Theaters' festival returns: Celebrating the best of Polish Radio drama

The 23rd annual Two Theaters festival will kick off in the Baltic resort of Sopot this Saturday, June 22, celebrating the best in Polish Radio drama.

"This year, the competition will feature 16 radio plays for adults and seven for children," says Adam Wojtyszko, the artistic director of the event.

The festival program also includes two live performances, one of which is an episode of the iconic Matysiakowie series, the oldest and longest-running radio drama in Poland.

The audience will also have a chance to see how Polish Radio's legendary summer program Lato z Radiem is produced, along with some of the public broadcaster's best documentary and reportage productions.

Since 2024 has been declared the Year of Witold Gombrowicz in the country, viewers will have the opportunity to watch a dramatic adaptation of his 1937 novel Ferdydurke, directed by Mariusz Malec.

Other attractions include drama workshops and meetings with theater professionals and artists.

The winners of the awards for best radio and television plays of 2024 will be announced at a ceremony on the final day of the festival, which runs until June 24.
