In the "rightly past" era, Poles couldn't count on attractions that were typically associated with their Western peers. They had to settle for substitutes: soda from a seltzer instead of Coca-Cola, sanatorium stays or local summer camps instead of foreign trips, and long queues at empty store shelves instead of well-stocked shopping malls.

The quality of such entertainments was often similar to chocolate substitutes, yet they enjoyed immense popularity simply because there was nothing else to replace them.

For generations who experienced youthful passions during communist times, viewing unique posters from decades past can bring considerable satisfaction. Viewing them can offer a brief journey through time, akin to blockbuster movies starring the iconic Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox).

At the exhibition dedicated to holidays during communism, visitors will have the opportunity to see works by masters of the Polish School of Posters: Waldemar Świerzy, as well as Andrzej Pągowski, Tadeusz Jodłowski, Jan Sawka, Włodzimierz Terechowicz, and Rita Walter-Łomnicka.

On Wednesday, July 10, at 1 PM, the vernissage will take place at the Poster Gallery of the X Pavilion of the Warsaw Citadel Museum, and admission is free. As part of the "Summer in the City" initiative, curator-led tours of the exhibition will also be conducted by Marta Brodala.

"Scout camps, harvests, student rallies - a nostalgic journey for the older generation, an expedition into another era for the young," invites the museum on social media to visit the poster presentation, which awaits visitors throughout the summer holidays of 2024.
