London Symphony Orchestra performs in Warsaw

The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) gives two concerts in Warsaw as part of the Chopin and his Europe Festival.

The programme of Monday’s concert comprises Chopin’s Piano Concerto in E minor Op. 11 with Canadian pianist Bruce Liu as the soloist and the First Symphony by Jean Sibelius.

On Tuesday, the LSO is to present music by English composers: Edward Elgar’s Violin Concerto in B minor, with Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang as the soloist, and Gustav Holst’s symphonic suite The Planets.

In the latter work, the orchestra will be joined by the Kaunas State Choir from Lithuania.

In both concerts, the LSO appears under Sir Antonio Pappano, who next month takes up the duties of the orchestra’s Chief Conductor.

In 2014, the LSO gave a concert in Katowice, southern Poland, which included the Tenth Symphony by Polish composer Andrzej Panufnik, who spent the best part of his life in the U.K. In 2019, the orchestra made of a three-concert tour of Poland, appearing in Warsaw, Wrocław and Katowice, with Sir Simon Rattle on the conductor’s podium.
