The new building on Marszałkowska Street was officially opened on Friday evening, attracting both locals and tourists who lined up over the weekend to explore the space.
According to museum spokesperson Przemek Rydzewski, approximately 10,000 visitors attended on Friday, followed by 20,000 on both Saturday and Sunday. "Interest has remained high, with people arriving steadily throughout Monday," he noted.
Meanwhile, Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski tweeted: "Half of the internet: Who needs @MSN_Warszawa?
People: 50,000 people visited the Museum of Modern Art on its opening weekend".
The museum is offering a special opening program until November 10, featuring over 100 free events, including concerts, workshops, and discussions, designed to encourage engagement with the building’s architectural and spatial design. The program also includes daily public access, except for Monday, November 4.
Warsaw’s new architectural landmark
Designed by New York studio Thomas Phifer and Partners in collaboration with Warsaw’s APA Wojciechowski, the museum took five years to complete. Its minimalist form consists of two rectangular sections across six levels—four above ground and two below—totaling nearly 20,000 square meters, with 4,500 square meters dedicated to gallery spaces.
The museum features four galleries across the first and second floors, with two galleries illuminated by skylights. Other amenities include an auditorium, educational spaces, and a fully transparent foyer with a café and shop visible from the outside. The lower levels house a 150-seat cinema, conservation workshops, and storage facilities.
