Dobesz received the accolade in the Best European Production Design category for her work on The Girl with the Needle, a Polish-Danish-Swedish co-production directed  by Magnus von Horn, a Swedish-Polish director who studied and subsequently settled in Poland.

A jury verdict says: “The difficult life and psychological drama of young Karoline in post-WWI Copenhagen is expertly illustrated by an excellent, interesting, visually strong, and striking production design.”

It adds: “Through skillfully designed interiors, along with carefully chosen exteriors, production designer Jagna Dobesz strongly and powerfully contributes to the visual quality and atmosphere of the movie.”

Dobesz studied sculpture at the Fine Arts Academies in Wrocław and Warsaw. She contributed to the Oscar-winning Ida by director Paweł Pawlikowski, and worked with von Horn on his previous movies Intruder and Sweat.

The European Film Awards will be announced on December 7 at a ceremony in Lucerne, Switzerland.
