Radosław Sikorski, in using these words, was referring to the Potsdam Conference in 1945, where the Allied powers made crucial decisions about post-World War II Europe and the reorganization of international borders.
During a discussion about Ukraine's future following a potential victory by Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential elections, the head of Polish diplomacy pointed out that next week's European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting could be "dramatic."
"There must be, or may not be, massive decisions on whether we are ready to allocate real resources - such as frozen Russian assets - to support Ukraine," he stated.
Sikorski mentioned that talks with Trump’s closest security advisors are ongoing but emphasized that the Republican administration cannot afford a defeat for Ukraine, as it would mirror the Afghanistan debacle that harmed Biden’s Democratic administration.
According to Sikorski, President Andrzej Duda’s relationship with Trump will be a test of his influence, especially regarding Ukraine’s sovereignty.
The top Polish diplomat believes that past criticism of Trump by Polish politicians will not affect U.S.-Polish relations. He emphasized that Trump is primarily driven by U.S. interests.
