Theatre stars Magdalena Zawadzka and Piotr Fronczewski cut the ribbon on the new Polish Radio Drama Museum in the southern town of Baranów Sandomierski on Monday.
Leading thespians and narrators read their favourite poems at the opening ceremony, while musicians led by veteran singer Joanna Rawik graced the occasion with their performances, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Janusz Kukuła, one of the driving forces behind the project, said it aimed to "commemorate the almost century-long tradition of Polish Radio Theatre.”
Built over three years and located near a historic castle in Baranów Sandomierski, the museum tells the story of the 100 years of Polish Radio’s popular audio plays, complete with items immortalizing the broadcaster's iconic drama series such as Matysiakowie and W Jezioranach.
Visitors will also have the chance to try their hand at operating special-effects machinery, including equipment that produces the sound of wind, rain and storm, organisers said.
The museum houses recording studios where radio enthusiasts will be able to take part in courses and workshops on how to write scripts and record audio broadcasts, the IAR news agency reported.
“This place will be teeming with life,” Kukuła said.
