The study analysed Instagram hashtag and Google search data to reveal the most popular travel tattoos across the globe, according to the bounce.com website.
Each country’s popularity was deduced from the combined total of Instagram hashtags and Google searches.
Japan ranked first overall with a combined search volume of over 170,000. Japanese tattoos are famous for their distinctive and traditional style and serve as a great memento for tourists to remember their travels, the website said.
Poland ranked second, ahead of Mexico in third place, each with sizeable Google search volumes.
Both countries have renowned cultural significance and this often connects with the ink that tourists decide to get on their visits, bounce.com reported.
Tourists in Poland often choose tattoos relating to Slavic mythology, it said.
